If golf courses could talk, they'd probably say that green is their colour of choice - Trees, plants, and grass are just a few of the abundant elements that contribute to the natural beauty, personality, and character of golf courses. In the same way that golfers everywhere are urged to respect the courses they play on, adidas as a business are doing their part to respect the world we live in by creating items from recycled materials. One way they're doing so is with the Play Green collection, which was created for golfers and built with the environment in mind.
Despite the fact that more than 90% of the adidas spring/summer apparel is manufactured in part from recycled materials, they decided to create a unique collection to motivate people to join them on their path to help end plastic waste. This adidas Play Green collection, which includes polos, t-shirts, and caps, combines adaptable design and performance with goods manufactured, in part, from recycled materials. The brand's objective is to replace all virgin polyester in their goods, with recycled polyester by 2024 whenever practicable.
“It’s always our objective to make products for golfers that perform, but we never lose sight of the need to do so in a more sustainable way,” said Shaun Madigan, global director of apparel, adidas Golf. “Play Green is a collection where we feature designs inspired by the natural beauty that’s unique to golf, but all on a canvas comprised of materials that are better for the environment.”
The colours in the Play Green collection were also carefully chosen to reflect the familiar sceneries and landscapes that golfers witness during their rounds. Colours of the Spray-Dyed Polo, for example, are inspired by the brilliant greens of the fairways, the brushing whites of the clouds, the contrasting whites and browns of the bunkers, and the dark blues of the ocean and waterways frequently seen throughout the course.
To distinguish this particular collection, adidas devised an exciting logo that mixes golf with our brand's purpose to help End Plastic Waste. This amusing design portrays a plastic bottle carrying golf clubs on a pushcart, inviting everyone to think about the various ways we can do more to protect our environment.
