History, craftsmanship and attention to detail - For over 100 years both FootJoy and Harris Tweed have been upholding the highest standards of authenticity, quality, style and performance. Now there is a FootJoy Premiere Series golf shoe that builds on these values.
The FootJoy x Harris Tweed Hebrides collaboration celebrates the heritage of both brands and gives you the opportunity to own a unique pair of FJ golf shoes.
This limited edition version of the Harris Tweed Black Watch Premiere Series Packard golf shoes, features cloth governed by its own Act of Parliament.
Released in time for the Scottish Open on Thursday 8th July, these mens golf shoes embody the theme of links golf and will be sent to FootJoy ambassadors for use at the Scottish Open and The Open Championship at Royal St George’s next week.
This Black Watch tartan, from the Harris Tweed Hebrides Heritage Collection, has been chosen to feature on this exclusive version of Premiere Series Packard shoe. The classic looking Packard golf shoe is inspired by Frederick Packard, FootJoy’s founder and a FJ golf shoe pioneer, who was behind many of the manufacturing and design processes used present day.
The FootJoy Packard golf shoe has timeless style, but is also infused with performance. At the forefront is the VersaTrax+ outsole, which has multiple TPU compounds to grip any surface - a harder TPU for the fairways and a softer TPU for traction on solid surfaces.
The shoe's additional comfort is provided by an Ortholite EcoPlush FitBed, with perimeter stability in the heel as well as excellent underfoot cushioning.
To uphold the distinctive characteristics of the Harris Tweed fabric, it must be handwoven in the homes of residents of the Outer Hebrides. The wool is dyed before being spun, allowing an aray of colours to be blended into the yarn, and creating a cloth of great depth and beauty.
Due to The Harris Tweed Act of Parliament, the cloth has to be produced on the islands of Lewis, Harris, Uist and Barra, using truly traditional methods. The cloth is then exported to over 50 countries, with every metre handwoven on the islands and then inspected by the Harris Tweed Authority, before being stamped with the Orb Mark.
Every shoe features its own unique piece of Harris Tweed Black Watch cloth, so has it's own mix of blue, black and green wool used. Each pair also comes with a shoe bag, uniquely manufactured from the same Harris Tweed cloth.
Chris Tobias, FootJoy Vice President of Global Footwear had this to say about the collab:
“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to work with such an iconic brand. The original uniform of choice in the Outer Hebrides, Harris Tweed was an early innovation statement for golfers who had to perform in challenging weather conditions.”
“The luxurious hand-woven wool is a strong complement to our modern classic footwear, fuelled by authenticity, style, and performance.”
FootJoy's journey towards the Hebridean product was aided by Harris Tweed Hebrides chairman, Brian Wilson, who had this to say:
“Harris Tweed and the game of golf are natural partners. It has been a pleasure to work with FootJoy, since we represent the same standards of excellence in quality and design."
"The FJ Black Watch Packard golf shoe is worthy of the world’s finest players and courses.”
