Golf and skateboarding may appear to be vastly different on the surface. One is steeped in tradition with evolving perceptions of norms and conformity, while the other is characterised by an anti-establishment stance. adidas is commemorating the intersection of these prominent sports by releasing a special capsule, adidas Rolling Links, which incorporates skateboarding style into the golf world. The capsule will be available in limited quantities on October 4th.
The adidas Rolling Links capsule is a fusion of two sports cultures that, despite their apparent differences, have a great deal in common. The products are influenced by the unapologetic styles, strong communities, and individual nature of each discipline, which are all shared attributes that are present in both golf and skateboarding. Ultimately, the convergence of similarities served as the impetus for the establishment of the collaboration between the two adidas divisions. Rolling Links was the name of the androgynous product offering, which was created with materials specifically designed for the course. The name was chosen as a playful pun that alludes to the elements of both sports. The term "Rolling" refers to the literal rolling of the skateboard (or golf ball), while "Links" is another term for a golf course, as well as when skateboarders link stunts together as part of a run.
Crewneck windshirts, sweatshirts, v-neck vests, short and long-sleeve polos, and a mock-neck short-sleeve shirt comprise the product designs. A brief and chino pant with tonal three-stripe side hem detailing completes the collection. The range's white, gray, black, green, and blue hues are a tribute to the emblematic adidas Trefoil and the sports. Silhouettes exude a sporting, relaxed atmosphere.
"The golf fashion landscape is currently being influenced by a variety of areas, including sport, culture, and fashion," stated Dylan Moore, adidas Golf's creative director. "Skateboarding is a sport in which style is unassuming, individual, and a little bit of an attitude, similar to golf." We recognised an opportunity to incorporate some of the design direction from our skateboarding counterparts at the brand to create a genuinely unique product for the course and to continue to innovate in the field of golf fashion.
Adam Brown, senior brand director of adidas skateboarding, stated, "Golf is a sport that is gaining popularity in the skate community for a variety of reasons when they are not skateboarding." So this sort of collaboration at adidas is simply logical, particularly given the numerous similarities between the two sports. We observe the stylistic transformations that are taking place in the golf industry and are enthusiastic about the prospect of collaborating with the golf team to develop a distinctive course design that is influenced by skateboarding.
adidas selected the iconic Palm Springs as the backdrop for the creative campaign due to its laid-back atmosphere and reputation as a refuge from the hustle and hubbub of city life. adidas also showcased the adidas skateboarding team, which consists of Nora Vasconcellos, Kader Sylla, Jack Fardell, and Zach Saraceno. These professional skateboarders are inspired by the sport of golf due to its similarities to skateboarding and participate in it whenever they are not skating.
The capsule also includes two exclusive footwear silhouettes: a special chalk-white edition of the Superstar Golf with green and blue details and a streamlined, all-black MC Z-Traxion. The course is elevated to a new level by the combination of design and functionality. For those who are proceeding to the first tee, a variety of colored crew socks and headwear complete the ensemble.
On October 4th 08.00 BST, select retailers worldwide will offer Rolling Links in restricted quantities. You can buy it here.
